YOU MUST HAVE A CLEAR-CUT VISION
One of the few mistakes you must never make is to venture into any business without a clear vision and well-defined goals. Never ever step out in your money-making adventures without first of all defining what you really want in business!
A few years ago, my very close friend kept telling me that he would not stay for too long in a salaried employment. Let’s call him Mr D. He said his plan was to end up in his own business and an employer instead of dying an employee.
However, Mr D. had a clear vision of the kind of business he would be doing once he retires from a paid employment. His dream was to become a real estate guru! At that time, my friend was a banker. He had even climbed to an enviable position in his banking career, but still, he was tenacious about his dream of being self-employed and of being an employer of labour.
Today, Mr D is not doing badly at all as a realtor, a publisher and an entrepreneur!
One peculiar characteristic that has stood Mr D out just in a few years after taking a bold step out of a paid employment is that, he is constantly being driven by a clear vision of what he wanted out of life as a businessman.
I’m so convinced that if you wake Mr D up from sleep, he would answer your questions and solve problems for you on things pertaining to real estate entrepreneurship! That is the reason I want to emphasise this as the most important step to take if you aspire to be self-employed: A CLEAR-CUT VISION.

Don’t Be A Jack-of-All-Trade!

What kind of business do you want to do? What kind of business do you think you can start today and stick with, even in the next ten, twenty or thirty years? If all you’re looking for is just something to do to fetch you money for survival, you cannot make it to the top as an entrepreneur.
You cannot be a Jack-of-all-trade, who jumps at any type of business by chance and make it in business. You must be driven by a clear-cut vision if you must succeed. Just like Mr D is daily moving to the peak of his career as a realtor, you can only move to the top of any business if you are driven by an invisible picture of a well-defined  business venture!

Learn From These Examples…

Talking about the eatery and fast food business for instance, Sweet Sensation is a leading name in that line of business. However, I want you to realise that Sweet Sensation was born out of a burning vision. Little wonder it has made it through the thick and thin!
The same goes for Tantalizers. It’s a product of a clear vision. Mr. Biggs is an offshoot of a chain of visions. Note that these successful businesses did not start because the visionaries had plenty of money. They were born out of clear visions. Anywhere you go in the world, you will discover that thriving businesses are products of clear and well-defined vision.
Making a decision to be self-employed or to start a business venture is not always determined by how much money you have in your bank account, but how much vision you have in your heart. With little or no money, a good vision will speak for itself and bring untold success and happiness to the carrier!
I love to read stories of how businesses started, and often, the stories seem to have a lot of similar side of starting with little or no money. However, I’ve never read any story of a successful business, which did not start with a clear vision!

YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE LAWS THAT GOVERN MONEY

The second way to become self-employed and succeed at it is to understand the laws that govern money. As a matter of fact, nobody can ever succeed in business or in any self-employment venture without adequate knowledge on how to handle money.
This is one reason why a lot of people are so afraid to step out and start their own businesses. The major excuse you hear them give all the time is that they have little or no capital to start anything worthwhile; but nothing can be further from the truth.
In Hebrews 13:5, the Bible says something very interesting about how to conduct our business, if we want God to prosper and promote us. It says, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
This Scripture simply put paid to any argument that suggests you’re disadvantaged or that you do not have what it takes to achieve your heart desires. It teaches that you should not be covetous. It says to be content with such things as you have.
It teaches that God will never leave you without support at any point in your God-ordained dreams. Putting all of this together, we can conclude that what you have at the moment is enough to start running your dream.
Somebody said, “But I don’t have any money.” People that say they don’t have any money are either lying or are not sincere. Some other people say, “I agree that I have money; but what I have is too little to start anything meaningful.
This mentality that what you have is too little is also not true. Rather, unknown to many people, what  they lack are the laws that govern money. If you understand the laws that govern money, your attitude to money will change.
In other words, the way you see money will change and there is no amount of money in your hand that will be too little or too much. So, for you to be self-employed, you need to understand at least the 10 laws that govern money. Let me share some of them with you here.
